In the early hours of the morning, the attic of an apartment building on Hofwiesenstrasse caught fire. Residents of the property were unable to leave the building due to the fire and firefighters had to rescue them from the balconies using cylindrical stairs.
According to Urs Eberle, media spokesperson for Schutz & Rettung Zürich, the fire is now under control. Lifeguards were taken care of on site. Someone had to be taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation. The fire made one apartment uninhabitable, and the rest could be moved into it again.
Lines 11 and 15 down
The fire service also had an impact on general traffic in the morning. The road between Schaffhauserplatz and Bucheggplatz/Oerlikon is closed for trams on lines 11 and 15 until 10:30 am in both directions. The road can now be driven normally again.
