For the first time since August 2011, the Zurich club has tasted the Champions League. The Swiss champions meet Polish champion Lech Posen or Karabakh of Azerbaijan in the second qualifying round.
The first show will be against both teams. Karabakh in particular must have fond memories of Swiss football fans: in the group stage of the Conference League last year, the Azerbaijan champions met FC Basel.
On July 13th it will be clear who is playing against the people of Zurich. The first leg of the second round will take place on July 19 or July 20, with the return leg a week later on July 26 and 27. July in Letzigrund.
“Two nuts and hard bolts”
President Ancilo Canepa is particularly pleased with the scheduling of the Games. “We play away from home first, which means we can play the second leg in Letzigrund and don’t have to switch to another stadium,” the 69-year-old was quoted on the club’s website as saying.
There will be a concert by “Totten Hussein” in the stadium on July 17th, which is why the stadium was full. According to Blick’s information, FCZ should have moved to the small Wefox Arena in Schaffhausen (8,200 seats), St. Gallen and Lucerne were not available.

Canepa shows respect to potential opponents: “In terms of potential opponents, we are dealing with two difficult opponents. Either way, these are two hard-to-crack nuts.”
New coach Franco Voda sees both Lech Poznan and Karabakh as quality teams: “Last year, for example, Karabakh qualified for the last 16 of the Conference League. Poznan is a traditional club that has already celebrated some successes at the national level.” But like Canepa, also Austrian In a positive mood: “We will try everything to get to the third round.”
This is how FCZ goes to the European Cup
Of course, from a Swiss point of view, do not hope for it, but what will happen if the Zurich club loses the fencing? The Swiss champion then slips to the third preliminary round of the European League. If you were to lose there as well, you would still be in the Conference League playoffs.
On the contrary, this means that FCZ must survive at least one round of competition to be safe in one of the three European Cups. If they beat Lech Poznan or Karabakh, for example, Fouda’s team will be at least in the conference league. (Che)
