The Last of Us tells the story of smuggler Joel (Pedro Pascal) and 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as they struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. Joel has to smuggle Ellie out of the high-security quarantine zone and travel across the country with her. This adventure takes place in the year 2033, 20 years after mushrooms have already turned more than half of humanity into monsters.
The series is based on the video game of the same name which was released for PlayStation in 2013. In just two weeks, the game has sold more than 4.3 million copies. And the newly released series is also a success. In the US alone, the premiere episode had 22 million viewers, making it the second biggest series ever to launch on HBO after House of the Dragon.
The series’ ratings are great, too. on me Rating platform Rotten Tomatoes The series has been rated 96 percent by critics and 94 percent by viewers.
After the second episode aired on January 23, the creators have already announced the next season. More information about the second season is not known yet.
In the third episode, the series for the first time deviates from the story in the game: a little action, but a lot of emotions. Although the main characters are Joel and Ellie, this episode mainly focuses on the love story between Bill (played by Nick Offerman) and Frank (played by Murray Bartlett). And this particular story is what inspires and makes viewers cry:
