– The participants suffered from starvation, lack of oxygen and cockroaches for two years
In 1991, a crew of eight moved into a hermetically sealed glass building for two years to build a small plot. The experiment went completely wrong.

On a January day in 1993, eight gaunt figures danced in a gigantic glass house in the Arizona desert. They ran in circles, laughed like crazy and felt like a newborn. The reason was called oxygen. In the past few months, the oxygen content in the air has decreased from 21 to 14.5 percent, which roughly corresponds to conditions on the top of a 5,000-meter mountain. Those who tolerate this have to struggle with sluggish reactions and confused thoughts or fall asleep because the body thinks it’s suffocating. Now the deliverance: Tank trucks pump pure oxygen into her closed apartment complex, and one participant described the sudden increase to 26 percent as “the most amazing physiological experience of my life.”
