Five Nations – One European Championship: England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland jointly apply for the UEFA 2028.
“It is an honor and a privilege to host the European Football Championship and to welcome the whole of Europe,” said a statement from the Five Football Associations.
He added: “We believe that the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland offer something special for UEFA and European football: a unique, five-fold alliance that will provide the best experience for teams and fans.”
The best opportunities for UEFA commitment
The British really wanted to apply for the 2030 World Cup. But in a feasibility study, European competition was economically more profitable and less risky. However, above all, it is estimated that the chances of the contract being awarded are high. The England Football Association lost in the bid for the 2018 World Cup. Its chairman, Prince William, had previously said he did not want to take part in the 2030 auction if it was likely to fail again. UEFA has already signaled goodwill to the British and Irish nations for the 2028 European Championship. The European Football Association can count on more ticket sales and business success through matches in the British and Irish Islands.
The five-nation bid for the UEFA Championship leads to a promising bid by Spain and Portugal for the 2030 World Cup. Russia and Turkey are considered contenders for the European Championship. However, UEFA wants to avoid voting.
