Kamakari The future is being built in the Kamakari Industrial Estate. The city was called “Rua Hidrogenio” – “Hydrogen Street”. A refinery is being built there, and chemical company Unigel is investing $120 million in a green hydrogen plant. The electricity needed for this comes from a wind power plant containing 230 internal turbines. The electrolyzer will be supplied by German company Thyssen-Krupp Nucera.
There is also a port. From there, tankers carrying ammonia and hydrogen will head to Europe from the end of next year. Almost all major wind and solar energy providers are headquartered in Kamakari. Siemens Energy and Nordex-Acciona were also represented.
According to a study by McKinsey, Brazil will catch up to the most cost-effective locations in the USA, Australia, Spain and Saudi Arabia to produce hydrogen in 2030.
