What is Joachim Low planning after the European Championship and his resignation from coaching the national team? A former club currently showing interest.

FRANKFURT / ISTANBUL – Jogi Löw announced some time ago that he would step down as national coach after the European Championship 2021. The upcoming European Championship will be the last tournament for the 61-year-old as a coach of the German Football Association. And it appears that his successor has already been found.

But his end as a national coach doesn’t mean Löw will give up his coaching career. It is possible to imagine the future as a coach for the club. Currently, there are constant transfer rumors circulating affecting him and one of his former clubs: Fenerbahce Istanbul.

EM 2021: Jogi Löw before tackling a former club?

As the Turkish newspaper Vanatik reported, President Ali Koç wants to lure Joachim Low to the Bosphorus. The Turkish newspaper Posta also addressed the corresponding report: “Fenerbahce’s board of directors wants to work with a strong coach next season, and the first candidate is Löw,” according to the report.

It appears that there have already been initial discussions. Löw actually coached Fenerbahce in the 1998/1999 season. Should another transfer occur, Loew will meet world champion from 2014: Mesut Ozil. The 32-year-old transferred from Arsenal to Fenner in January 2021 for five million euros.

Meanwhile, the capital club is struggling in the Turkish league. Most recently, after the defeat to Siva Sport, they lost second place in the table to Galatasaray. However, Besiktas Istanbul tops the table. The chance of winning the title is very slim for Fenerbahn this season. That should change in the next season – maybe with Jogi Love as coach.

While rumors like this persist in public, Löw has to plan the team for the upcoming European Championship. He appears to be relying on a Bundesliga star who has already been settled. However, the national coach also has concerns. A midfield strategist threatens to fail. TU / CID
