Economic cooperation with the United States of America was discussed

Economic cooperation and the good offices of Switzerland were at the heart of the first “Strategic Partnership Dialogue”. The conversation took place between Switzerland and the United States. Current events, especially in Afghanistan, were also discussed.

In addition to economic relations, scientific cooperation between the two countries was discussed. There was a meeting between Secretary of State Livia Liu and Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman. This was announced by the Federal Foreign Office (FDFA) on Friday.

The United States is not only Switzerland’s largest trading partner outside Europe. Switzerland is also the third largest investor in research and development in the United States. Topics such as cybersecurity, digitalization and climate change were also on the agenda.

In addition, Liu and Sherman exchanged information about recent events in different regions of the world. They also talked about the protection mandate exercised by Switzerland to the United States of America in Iran. According to the US Department of Foreign Affairs, they also discussed ways to deepen the “excellent relationship.”

The dialogue on the strategic partnership should continue annually. Switzerland and the United States wanted to promote an “intensive and diverse bilateral dialogue at a high level”. During her visit to Berne, Sherman was to receive a courtesy visit from Secretary of State Ignazio Cassis.
