He faced off against Dylan C* (23 years old) on Frightening Saturday. The day started well. holiday beckons. At 1:10 p.m., she is scheduled to fly to Istanbul for a vacation with Pegasus airline. I arrived in Basel-Mulhouse just under three hours ago, in response to the airline’s request to accept longer wait times during the pandemic. But what follows is the efforts that lead Dylan C. to say, “Never fly with Pegasus!”
One by one: Instead of taking off on time, C. receives an SMS at about 1.30pm: the start has been pushed back to 6.40pm. Until then, there was no information about the flight, says C.
Together with about 180 passengers, she stands puzzled at the gate. After the message, nothing happens again. Afternoon turns into evening. “We stood there for hours. Lots of elderly, children and pregnant women. Nobody told us anything. However, it is not permissible for us to leave the gate.” K feels trapped and upset because she and the others are left alone.
Half Toast and Evian
Sometime after seven in the evening, someone showed up and made sure everyone had “half a triangle toast and a little Evian water”. The highlight of the day. Because then the passengers are again ignored. Dylan C: “We were sweating, we wanted some fresh air, and the old people needed their medicine, but nothing happened.”
Asked about Blake, a spokeswoman for the airport and Walpurga Bor said: “Passengers waiting at the gate have been informed, and two vouchers for drinks and sandwiches were offered between 2 and 6:30 pm.”
At 8:23 PM the flight will be cancelled. Addresses are given for free rebooking or payment. “But what good is that for travelers who were supposed to be in Istanbul today? They should have known what was happening much earlier,” complains S.
Fog responsible for cancellation
Dylan C had not yet been able to leave the gate. She was now at the gate for about 11 hours. There is a refund only shortly before 9:30 PM. In the form of the following SMS: Flight canceled due to heavy fog in Istanbul. The alternate plane will take off on Sunday at 10.50 am.
C brings her bag and lets the family take her. But many others have to wait at the airport. “Maybe all night long,” says C.
Walburga Bur says: “Passengers who wished were taken by bus to a hotel near the airport, where they were served dinner. A bus was also organized from the hotel to the airport on Sunday,” he said.
50 signatures have been collected
Since then, Dylan C. has collected signatures to file a lawsuit against Pegasus. 50 people participated on Saturday. At about 8 in the morning, she was on her way to the airport. When Blake talks to her, she receives the following message from Pegasus: “Flight leaves at 12 noon instead of 10:50.” But really this time. In the late afternoon, the young woman arrived in Turkey. Now she wants to enjoy her vacation, but she also wants to call Pegasus to hand out autographs.
At the airport, they regret the inconvenience caused to the concerned passengers. The airport staff and the ground handler of the airline concerned will provide support as much as possible. “Indeed, in such cases that have been described, the airline is liable,” Burr says.
Pegasus was not available for comment.
