Several new display options for computer monitors are planned for the next few months and into 2023. Supplier AU Optronics continues to increase resolution and refresh rate, and there are more and more small LEDs for high-contrast HDR images.
Well linked site TFT Central summarizes the current roadmap for AU Optronics. The highlight is the 32-inch IPS panel, which delivers an 8K resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels in a screen-compatible format for the first time and thus achieves a high pixel density of 275 pixels per inch (ppi). With 4608 small LED zones, the backlight can also be controlled very precisely. The only downside is the low refresh rate of 60Hz these days. Production is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2023.
540Hz max New
AU Optronics releases some new TN and IPS panels for gaming monitors. The fastest TN model measures 24.1 inches, which is Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) content, but increases the maximum refresh rate from 360 Hz in the current generation to 540 Hz. The response time of the crystals must be constantly less than 2 ms so that the plate does not spread. 96 small-zone LEDs, peak brightness of 1,000 cd/m² and high color space coverage (95 percent DCI-P3) are amazing for use as an electronic sports monitor.
WQHD displays with 2560 x 1440 pixels have been upgraded from 240 to 360 Hz – here too, initially with LEDs in the viewport and later with the option of small LEDs behind the panel.
In the case of 4K displays, the new variants will come with 160Hz and small LEDs first. AU Optronics’ first 4K panel with 240Hz will likely take some time before production begins in the third quarter of 2023. Competitor Samsung is already much further afield in this regard and is already selling the Odyssey Neo G8 with its own 4K 240Hz panel. .
