Decent come out – FCZ lose to Arsenal

The UEFA Cup season is over in Zurich. The Swiss champions lost their last Europa League match against Arsenal 0-1 and finished last in Group A.

When the Premier League leaders meet those at the bottom of the Premier League, the balance of power is clear. Accordingly, Zurich’s expectations fell when it came to London’s trip to Arsenal, and a clear defeat seemed more likely than a victory for Zurich, which may have been necessary to spend the winter in the conference league.

Adrian Guerrero’s supposed equalizer was denied after a good hour because the Spaniard was offside when Antonio Marchesano, who came at the break, fired in. Bogdan and Junnick also came close to scoring his first goal for Zurich with a long-range shot, and in the last attack it was Marchesano who slipped just inches from the equalizer.

It would have been a respectable success, but it wouldn’t have kept FCZ on the European stage. Bodeau/Glimt lost 1:2 to PSV Eindhoven at the same time. A win was necessary for Zurich to reach the Conference League.
