- FC Zurich began its European career with a 2-3 defeat to Karabakh Agdam.
- In front of the Azerbaijanis, Lyndrett Camberi (65) and Merlind Krizio (85, penalty kick) are worried about Zurich’s goals.
- The second leg of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers will take place on Wednesday 27 July in Letzigrund in Zurich.
In the second match of the new season, Swiss champions FC Zurich left the field as a loser: they suffered a 2-3 away defeat to Agdam Karabakh, who played better at times, in the second round of the Champions League qualifiers.
Only in the first 20 minutes of the second half were Zurich able to seize the puck: after Nikola Boranigasevich’s shot was blocked by Karabakh goalkeeper Shahrudin Magomedaliev in the 51st minute, Lindet Kamberi directed a ball in the 65th minute with a header free kick into the goal and reduced to 1: 2.
Wajdi returns to fame
Instead of starting to catch up, the Limstadt players conceded the next goal after 49 seconds: with his second goal of the evening, Ibrahima Wuji made himself the “man of the match”.
However, the end result was not consistent at this point. After Boranijacevic was dropped in the penalty area, Merlind Krizio immediately put the ball on and confidently turned 2:3.
It looked much worse for Zurich in the first half: from the first minute the hosts applied a lot of pressure in the crowded stadium in Baku and visibly drowned FCZ in a quick transition match; 2-0 was not stolen at the break.
Here’s how to proceed
For the upcoming return leg on Wednesday, July 27, a minimal deficit could be a stroke of luck – however, Team Foda will need a significant improvement in performance if they are to stay in the race for the “First Division”.
