Security gaps appear time and time again in popular browsers. Google Chrome is no exception here. The latest update to version 96.0.4664.110 fixes five issues at once. One is rated ‘Critical’, the other ‘High’, like Google in one Blog post mentioned.
The critical vulnerability (CVE-2021-4098) affects Chrome’s IPC mojo. The CVE-2021-4102 vulnerability, rated as “high”, affects the JavaScript Engine V8. It is possible that attackers will create a memory error here and use it to install malware.
Chrome update: How to get the security patch
In general, however, Google provides very little information about individual issues. They wanted to wait with more details for the majority of users to install the update. In addition, they want to give developers of other projects affected by the same bugs time to provide a corresponding patch.
The new update is available for macOS, Linux, and Windows. To check the currently installed version, click on the three dots in the upper right corner, then on “Help” and “About Google Chrome”. The version number is now displayed here. Conveniently, you can also download the update at this point if it doesn’t happen automatically already. We recommend that you do so as soon as possible.
