ChatGPT: American writers sue AI company for copyright infringement

gA number of prominent North American writers, including Jonathan Franzen, John Grisham, Jodi Picoult, and George R.R. Martin, have sued OpenAI for copyright infringement. The court document said the startup, which was co-funded by Microsoft, used its work to develop artificial intelligence without permission. OpenAI, where the chatbot ChatGPT comes from, did not initially comment on the lawsuit.

The authors said they represent all of the roughly 13,000 Authors Guild members, with whom the lawsuit was filed jointly. In July, thousands of Authors Guild members wrote an open letter protesting the free use of their works to develop artificial intelligence.
