In the fall of 2021, Marcel Hirscher (33 years old) introduced his own skate brand called “Van der”. The eight-time World Cup winner wants to return to the World Cup finals next season. So it is not personally.
Since Monday, the first athlete to wear the new skates has been known: Charlie Raposo. Perhaps the name should just mean something to the absolute skate connoisseur. The 26-year-old Briton mainly competes in giant slalom and has finished 30th in the top 30 in 29 races so far, posting his best result in about a month in Kranjska Gora (Slovenia) in 16th.
“I am proud and honored to be the first athlete to skate Van der skates,” the Briton, who had been skating Rossignol, wrote with overjoyed on Instagram. He also thanks Marcel Hirscher and his father Ferdinand for believing in his potential and for giving him this opportunity.
Why doesn’t Hirscher get Ösis?
The former slalom specialist is also pleased with this collaboration: “While we grew up directly in the ski areas, Charlie always had to go the extra mile. His unconventional method impresses me and I look forward to creating many beautiful moments with Van der and Charlie Raposo from next season,” said the Austrian.
It is not known if other athletes will sign with Hirscher in the near future. As reported by the platform “skinews.ch”, the Norwegian Timon Haujan (25) could transform into “van der”. However, nothing has been fixed yet.
Of course, the double Olympic champion from Pyeongchang 2018 would like to sign the best cracks from his homeland. However, this will only be possible from the following season, provided that Van der and development association Austria Ski Ball agree on a partnership. (Che)
