Lucien Favre will not return to Borussia Monchengladbach as a coach. The 64-year-old Swiss gave a basket to his former team.
“Lucien Favre told us he no longer wanted to work in Germany. We’ve done it all in the last two weeks. But I must say very clearly: I don’t think he will be a coach at Borussia Monchengladbach in the next two years,” sporting director Roland Verkus said at the Borussia general meeting.
So Ferkus asked the members to be patient while looking for a new coach. “You can be sure that we want to get that done as quickly as possible. But: since we haven’t made good decisions about the coach in the past three years, it is very important that we make a good decision.”
Coming back seemed like a done deal
Media reports stated that Favre, who coached Borussia between 2011 and 2015, initially saved them from relegation and led them to the Champions League, and was already considered a future Gladbach coach. Most recently, the 64-year-old from Vaud has worked at Borussia Dortmund, where he was released in 2020.
