In light of the looming gas crisis, the EU economy and consumers may face important energy-saving measures.
The draft emergency plan prepared by the European Commission states that public buildings, offices and commercial premises must be heated to a maximum of 19 degrees in the fall.
Everyone can save
“Action now could reduce the effects of a sudden outage by a third,” says the text available to dpa. There is now a high risk that Russia will cut off gas supplies to Europe this year.
They say companies that can replace gas should reduce their consumption. The goal is to protect industries that are particularly important to supply chains and competitiveness. Families are also encouraged to consume less voluntarily. “Anyone can save gas now,” the committee wrote.
Hospitals
Current rules state that families and hospitals should be given priority in the event of a gas shortage. However, if electricity production is at risk, states may put in supply gas-fired power plants to supply electricity through designated protected consumers, she said.
