While British Airways struggles with delays, a subsidiary airline faces a very different problem. City passengers face penalties for being late. Now the airline is taking countermeasures.
Statistically, the plane is the most punctual mode of transport. But if there are delays, the impact can be massive. Because more than half of all delays arise from previous delays. Technical defects and exceptional circumstances are tracked in the reasons list.
In addition to problems that arise during operations, airlines also have to pay compensation to passengers depending on the length of the delay. This is what the EU Air Passenger Rights Regulations say. These range from 250 to 600 euros per person and road. So the delay is expensive.
Cityflyer too early
However, arriving early can also cause problems, such as the portal Buick mentioned. A subsidiary of British Airways is now threatened with a fine. Cityflyer is said to have received potential fines from the responsible supervisory authority if the airline continues to land too early at London City Airport. The reason: The airport couldn’t handle the traffic. Cityflyer handles many of BA’s short distance itineraries.
Flights from Belfast, Dublin, Edinburgh and Glasgow to London Docks Airport are particularly affected. Management has already taken the first step. Boarding at departure airports begins no later than 20 minutes before departure to avoid early arrival.
Don’t be more than five minutes late
In addition, a recent memo to the cockpit crew stated that they should not take off early, especially if there is a risk of landing more than 15 minutes earlier than planned. Planes should not depart from remote stations more than 5 minutes early.
Meanwhile, the British mom is struggling with very different problems. In February, the punctuality rate was just under 70 percent. The aim is to achieve a 67% rate on Easter flights despite the strike at Heathrow. On days when this is achieved, the airline will raffle 2 free Club World tickets to any location on the route network among all employees.
