Confirmed as Brisbane Olympic host – 2032 Summer Games to be held in Australia
The 2032 Summer Olympics will be held in Brisbane. As expected, the contract was awarded to the city on the east coast of Australia at the 138th session of the International Olympic Committee in Tokyo.
As part of the new award process the Brisbane IOC was declared a “preferred candidate” and therefore the only candidate for election. Australia Becomes Olympic presenter for the third time. The Summer Games were held in Melbourne in 1956 and in Sydney in 2000.

For Brisbane, this is the second attempt at success. In 1992, Barcelona moved to Paris, Belgrade, Brisbane, Birmingham and Amsterdam. What spoke out against Brisbane at the time in the IOC’s view was that the city was small compared to other applicants.
Because of the cultural shift away from grandeur, the evil behind has now become an advantage. As most of the competition in Brisbane takes place at existing sports facilities, the Australian applicant has already become polarized in the new election process. According to studies, there is widespread support for Olympic projects in the region, for which more than three billion Swiss francs are estimated, half of which are approved by the Australian government.
IOC President Thomas Bach described the Brisbane application as “unavoidable”. The fact that Australian IOC Vice President John Coates was responsible for creating the new award procedures leaves at least one setback – the first winner is now his own country everywhere. The IOC denied the conflict of interest. Coates did not vote on any decision.
