Google takes the security of user accounts very seriously. Therefore, as of May 30, 2022, third-party apps or devices that require a username and password to sign in to a Google account will no longer be supported. The company explains this on its website support page.

There is a separate note for Apple device owners: “Users who can no longer sign in recently to their Google account using only their username and password will only be able to make new sign-in attempts with their Google Account as of February 28, 2022.
