Because of the discrimination lawsuit – Google wants to pay the plaintiffs $ 118 million – News

  • Google plans to pay $118 million to employees to settle a discrimination lawsuit.
  • Prosecutors accuse the tech group of paying less than their male colleagues because of their gender.
  • A judge has yet to agree to pay class members.

The $118 million will go to California workers who joined the class action.

The settlement also provides for an outside expert to review Google’s hiring practices, according to a statement from the plaintiffs’ attorneys over the weekend. The agreement will not enter into force until approved by the competent judge.

Google: “Not to admit guilt”

In a statement to the Financial Times, Google confirmed that the settlement was not an admission of guilt. However, after five years of litigation, both parties were of the opinion that this was the best way. The case was scheduled to go to trial in January next year.

In 2017, several female employees sued the tech company because women were said to have been paid less than men in the same positions. The case was given the status of a class action lawsuit on behalf of more than 15,000 women.
