Because of youth bullying
The costs of Miller’s past NHL career

Mitchell Miller: His past is his ruin.
On Sunday, the Boston Bruins decided to cancel Mitchell Miller’s contract (20). Two days after the announcement of the offer made to the controversial American. 48 Hours sparked heated debate in the orbit of the popular franchise and the NHL.
In 2016, at the age of 14, a juvenile court in the U.S. state of Ohio found Miller guilty of systematic bullying, racial insult, and systematic beating of black classmate Isaiah Meyer-Crothers, who had developmental disabilities. One incident involved giving candy to Meyer Crothers. Candy has already been flushed inside the urinal.
NHL president speaks a word of strength
It appears that NHL general manager Gary Bettman was unaware of Bruins’ intentions to offer Miller a contract, but made it clear from the league’s point of view: “What he did was unacceptable and unacceptable. He is not eligible to play in the NHL at this time and I cannot say whether he will be eligible for the NHL at any time.”
In 2020, Miller was selected by the Arizona Wolf in the fourth round of the NHL Draft. After the selection process, his dark past is made public – and the wolves waived his rights.
Captain Bruins Bergeron reacts with incomprehension
The decision to offer Miller a contract also caused the Bruins to lack understanding internally. Captain Patrice Bergeron criticized the club’s management’s decision: “Don (general manager Don Sweeney, editor) asked me my opinion about a week ago. I had concerns and shared them. I did not agree. The culture we have here is against this kind of behaviour.”
Bruins’ operational management is now holding up the matter, and the media is looking for someone to blame. The focus is on President Cam Neely and GM Don Sweeney. According to Sweeney, the Bruins had been considering signing Miller for about a year, and Neely said he had been aware of the plans since August. “We failed in that decision,” Neely said on Monday. “We should have done a much better job.”
Last season, Miller played for the Tri-City of the United States Hockey League and was awarded the Defenseman of the Year. (red)
