With Beatrice Egli (33) Rise! The Swiss pop star wants to climb the 4,478-meter Matterhorn this month. The singer trained extensively for this arduous task for about a year and uses every free minute to go hiking in the mountains.
“I’ve really had moments when I thought if I could really do it,” Schwyzerin says of when she got ready. She actually feels good, the only thing is that she sometimes lacks air. You still have to learn to breathe deeper.
Climbing to Horo is a daunting task
The ascent of “Horo” is not easy: the degree of ascent is officially classified as “difficult”, since the first ascent in 1965, more than 500 people have died in the process. This does not leave Beatrice Egli indifferent either. “Sometimes the cinema of my head passes with me, and the ideas about it are very extreme,” she says. “I’m very nervous.”
This climb comes as part of the “100% Peak Challenge for Women” organized by the Swiss Tourism Authority. The campaign aims to encourage women to climb all 48 peaks of four thousand meters in Switzerland. Beatrice Egli has already seen one of them: at the training camp in Zermatt, she climbed the 4,092-meter Pollux.
Thank you for this job
Beatrice Egli is an experienced hiker. Time and time again she shows herself to her fans in the mountains. She knows the Matterhorn is an entirely different caliber. However: “It gives me a lot of strength to achieve this goal,” she says. “I am so grateful that I was able to push my boundaries and find a new strength.” (IMH)
