Bayern Munich coach admits
We discussed the transfer of Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo in the Bundesliga? This scenario was entirely possible for Bayern Munich. Club president Oliver Kahn has admitted that a transfer has been considered in recent weeks.
Bayern made a really good deal this summer, already spending a total of more than 130 million euros. But in the management team of the German record champions, there was still discussion of a much larger coup. Bayern coach Oliver Kahn (53) now admits this to Sport Bild.
Kahn explains that the offer of Cristiano Ronaldo (37) has certainly been discussed. “Otherwise, we wouldn’t have done our job well.” But Munich did not continue to attack after all. “We came to the conclusion that, despite all the appreciation in the current situation, it would not have fit our philosophy.”
Ronaldo was upsetting the salary scale
Kahn probably means CR7’s salary above all else. He earns up to €29 million a year at Manchester United. At Bayern, the Portuguese will be by far the highest earners. For comparison: Newcomer Sadio Mane (30) should raise around 20 million euros.
Another top scorer still on Bayern’s radar, Kahn says on ‘SportBild’. With England’s Harry Kane, the Bundesliga captain has already made clear his interest. Here, however, the Munich team is planning for the long-term, and the commitment may only be realistic in the summer of 2023 (when Kane’s contract at Tottenham is still one year). But the main thing is that the England captain, who turns 28 on Thursday, already knows that Bayern Munich is interesting to him. (cat)
