FC Bayern Munich began preparing for the hot part of the season on Tuesday. At first the medical examinations and performance diagnostics were on Säbener Straße.
However, the absence of Captain Manuel Neuer weighs particularly heavily on us. The Munich top seed broke his lower leg during a skiing holiday in early December, which kept him out for the entire second half of the season. A circumstance that threatens Bayern Munich’s ambitious goals.

Noble scores victory: Monaco is on its way to the Champions League
16 hours ago
Sven Ulreich, who, barring the one-year HSV break (2020/21), has been under contract with FCB since 2015 and has represented Neuer several times in recent years, is apparently not thought of as capable long-term. The role of replacing the term by administrators – so the search for a new one is currently in full swing.
Slowly but surely, time is of the essence, after all, and the new goalkeeper is supposed to be one of the Bayern personnel who kicked off the six-day training camp in Qatar on Friday. Eurosport takes a closer look at the top favourites.
Alexandre Noble (Monaco)
Nübel moved to Isar in the summer of 2020 as a new prospective successor, but has never moved beyond the role of substitute during his time in the Bavarian state capital. Neuer’s unwillingness to give his potential heir playing time prompted the Paderborn native to flee after just a year.
The former Schalke 04 player joined Monaco on loan and instantly became number one in the principality. Although his loan deal with the Ligue 1 club is valid until the end of the season, Nübel would in fact be the most obvious and cheapest option.

He added, “I realized here how important the games are. I don’t want to miss it anymore. It doesn’t make sense for me to come back.” Nobile, who has regularly been ruled out lining up behind Neuer again in the recent past, went on to explain: “I don’t know how serious Manuel’s injury is. But I think it will start in the summer, at the latest in preparation for next season he will be fit again.”
However, the decision is not in his hands, nor in the hands of Bayern Munich. Monaco will have to give the go-ahead to move to Munich. Although the German series champions have a clause by which they can request Noble’s return to Germany, this does not apply in the winter transfer window.
According to information from “Kicker”, AS has so far stopped the first attempts at Bayern’s proposals. “You first have to give a signal that you want to do this,” Noble said, adding, “I think it’s going to be very difficult.”
Kevin Trapp (Eintracht Frankfurt)
Trapp, who was called up to Germany’s World Cup squad after his strong performances last season, would absolutely be an excellent solution, and his commitment would send a clear signal to veteran Neuer. Because: Trapp may justifiably claim to be the permanent goalkeeper of Munich, a player of his stature is in no way willing to play second fiddle.
However, it currently seems unlikely that the Bayern Munich chiefs would face their long-standing support with such a high-quality opponent. In addition, Frankfurt is not interested in letting its favorite and best-performing fans go, sporting director Markus Krosch was clear about the rumors in the “Wiesbadener Kurier” and declared the speculation “total nonsense”.

Instead, the Hessians are currently trying to extend Trapp’s contract (until 2024, ed.). The former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper had already admirably confirmed his love for Eintracht in the summer and turned down English record champions Manchester United.
“Yesterday I informed the officials of both clubs that I had decided to choose Eintracht,” Trapp said at the time via Instagram. “It is true that there is a written offer. Manchester United is a global club. I hope everyone understands that I am dealing with such an offer and I am thinking about it,” he said, adding: “I am with you here, Eintracht. We experienced something unforgettable and made history together.”
Later, Trapp should have confirmed in his decision that aforementioned story, which culminated in qualifying for the Round of 16 of the Champions League after the resounding success in the European League.
Jan Sommer (Borussia Mönchengladbach)
The Swiss outdid himself time and time again in Gladbach’s gown against Bayern Munich. Most recently, he made FCB’s attack desperate at the end of August, and the Colts finally stole a point from the Allianz Arena (1-1) thanks to his stellar performance.
No wonder Bayern’s fear appeared after Neuer’s injury. Sommer has been playing for Borussia for eight and a half years, and at the age of 34, a change to a top club was very tempting.

Sommer’s contract expires in the summer, so the winter transfer window will be the last opportunity to generate transfer fees for the Swiss. However, it can be difficult to find a suitable replacement. After a disappointing pre-season, Gladbach have their eyes set on the international spots again, and the Lower Rhine eleven are currently in eighth place with 22 points.
However, for Sommer and Bayern, the clash would be a win-win situation, at least in the short term. Sommer can play for three major trophies at the same time, the Munich team will have a first-class goalkeeper in their ranks.
But what would it be like if Neuer returned after recovering from injury? Will Sommer get a realistic chance to fight for dominance in the box with Neuer or will he have to move on after half a year?
A question symbolizing Bayern’s current dilemma. It’s still complicated.
