BERLIN (dpa) – Germany’s basketball players will face Brazil, Serbia and Australia in the qualifying round for their first Olympic Games. This was the result of the draw for the qualifying groups in Sopron, Hungary.
The German Basketball Federation’s (DBB) selection will travel to Brazil, where Belem will host one of four qualifiers for next year’s Summer Games in Paris. Other tournaments will be held in Belgium, Hungary and China. The game will be held from February 8 to 11, 2024. Hosts France and world champions USA are already confirmed to be in Paris. Ten additional starting spots will be awarded in the qualifiers.
“We’re an exciting team.”
“It’s an exciting group for us. Of course every team participating is very strong, but we’re excited about the teams we meet. The work starts now, so we can prepare well and do our best in February.” said national coach Lisa Thomaitis. Your team secured their spot at the Olympics with a strong sixth place finish at the European Championships last year.
“A fantastic team, albeit not easy opponents in this final qualification stage for the Olympics. Lisa Thomaidis and her team have already proven they can outdo themselves at EuroBasket and we head to Brazil with healthy confidence,” he said. Armin Andres, DBB Vice President of Competitive Sports.
