AWN TV Enns: U-16 handball players finished fourth in the Austrian championship

On Saturday morning, the young handball players Inez traveled to Perchtoldsdorf for the two-day U-16 state championship. In the end, AWN TV Enns made it to fourth place.

In the opening match of Group B, the people from Inz had to deal with Upper Austrian champions Union Schwannstadt. “We started well, were able to take advantage of our opponent’s mistakes and won the first set 11:4. After that, a little tension spread and we lost clearly,” said coach Kurt Gurtler. The match ended in a draw. In the final group match, Inez secured second place in the group with a draw against a strong team from Union Bohemkirchen. Eligibility for promotion to the semi-finals was not for the faint of heart. AWN TV Enns defeated SV MM Frohnleiten with a fighting performance and was in the semi-finals.

An exciting little finale

In Sunday’s opening match, the semi-final against Freistadt, Ennser had nothing to say in the first set. And then there was a shake-up in the team and they did not give the favorite a chance, 1: 1. In the end, Freistadt was just a step forward. Now the right tactics for the mini final must be found. The match against Berchtoldsdorf could not have been beyond exciting. “We won the first set 13:11, some unforced errors on our part brought Berchtoldsdorff the equalizer. In the deciding set, our opponent was luckier at 10:10 and beat us at 12:10. Long faces on our side, but it was an even game. Congratulations. A good fourth place in the Austrian U-16 Championship is very balanced.”
