“I must say frankly: I’m a little speechless,” team boss Stano Stillshamer couldn’t really believe the evening of victory. “The girls here have rewarded themselves for hard work and professionalism throughout the entire summer. Every player on our 3×3 program – even those not here – played a key role in this success!” On the second day of the tournament, I started with a work win in the quarter-finals against the women Strong Poles. . With 10:8 the red, white, and red women won the semi-final match against the United States.
Having had to concede defeat to the Americans by just one point in the group, the Austrians were excited for the semi-finals – and showed from the start that a sensation is possible on this day. Especially Sill, who impressed in her first championship at this level, and Sagerer made life difficult for the American girls – and led Austria to a thrilling 17:15 win.
In the final against Spain, everything was possible in the last seconds, with a score of 15:16 with seven seconds left, a mistake caused a delicate defeat, which in any case looks like a victory. And rightly so. Second place not only brings prize money of $3000 USD, but is also one of the greatest successes in the history of Austrian basketball.
