Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in at least two places on the east coast of Australia. One was killed and at least ten were missing. More storms and heavy rain are forecast for the next few days.

One person has been killed and at least ten people are missing after severe flooding off the east coast of Australia. The cities of Queensland and New South Wales and Sydney were particularly affected by the storms.

There were more than a hundred calls for emergency service assistance. Hundreds of people were rescued from the floodwaters. A freight train overturned near the city of Zimbabwe due to the storm. The train driver is said to have sustained minor injuries.

Residents must stay at home

Queensland’s regional prime minister, Annastasia Balaschuk, spoke of “tragedy”, which is very unusual for the time of year. It is currently summer in Australia. People living in flood-prone areas have been advised to stay indoors.

Fifteen dams in Queensland are already flooded, and rain and storms are expected in the coming days.
