Australia will reopen international borders for the first time in November

The conservative politician said it was “time for Australians to give their lives back”. People made “great sacrifices,” but they saved many lives. One and a half years ago, authorities closed the country’s borders completely and cut off Australia from the rest of the world. They followed the “zero govt strategy” which worked well until the delta variation spread. For a long time, citizens enjoyed many freedoms unthinkable in other countries.

Disadvantage: Since the onset of the epidemic many Australians have not been able to go home and visit relatives and friends because the costs of flights and isolation were so high and permits are hard to come by. In contrast, Australia’s nearly 25 million people are largely stranded in the country without the possibility of staying abroad.

The government in Canberra is working with various countries on the possibility of creating non-isolated travel corridors. Such control already existed in neighboring New Zealand in April. The so-called “trans-Tasman bubble” was discontinued in July after a growing number of lawsuits in Australia. It is not yet clear when tourists from around the world will be able to return to the Fifth Continent.

There are 105,000 cases in Australia so far. About 1200 people have died due to Govt-19.
