Australia's Giant Blueberry Breaks Records
A new strain in Australia is yielding unexpected results. An enormous specimen is currently in the Guinness Book of Records. It is six times heavier than a normal blueberry.
At 39.31 mm in diameter, the blueberry is slightly smaller than a ping-pong ball (40 mm) or a golf ball (42.2 mm), but larger and heavier than a five-ball (31.45 mm).

A giant blueberry from Australia is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records – it is the heaviest in the world and has a diameter of 3.931 centimeters.
The plump, bright blue mega fruit was picked last November at a Costa Berry farm in Corinthia, New South Wales, Australian media reported Friday, citing the company.
The previous world record was 16.2 grams and came from 2020, when an equally large specimen of blueberry was grown in Western Australia. In comparison: a typical blueberry weighs only one to 3.5 grams.

The new record holder was stored in a factory freezer while Guinness World Records inspectors scrutinized the new contender. Costa Ferris' Brad Hocking told Australia's ABC his team was delighted to have the record officially confirmed after 12 weeks.
Guinness inspectors had about 20 berries of this size to choose from when the current record holder, the blueberry, was chosen. Hawking said that giant berries do not lose their taste quality.
The blueberry is part of the new Eterna range, which the company developed as consumers in Australia demand larger berries. However, Hawking said there are currently no plans for larger categories.
Meanwhile, the staff is wondering what to do with the world record berry. Often it ends up as a display piece on the wall. “We all smile at them from time to time,” Hawking said. “A smoothie probably isn't the right recipe for her.”
