A week after the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, developer Larian posted some interesting data and facts about the title in a community update on Steam. In its opening weekend, players had already spent a total of about 1,225 years in Baldur’s Gate 3. 368 players also got to play through the entire role-playing game in the first weekend. The massive gameplay time must be mainly due to the character editor, as most gamers have invested a significant amount of time.
Over 93 percent of players decided against a pre-made character and opted for a custom variant. In total, users have spent about 88 years on the character editor alone. On average, each player spends about an hour or more customizing their hero. By far the most popular class is paladin, followed by wizard and warlock. According to the developers, the most popular races in Baldur’s Gate 3 are demi-elves, humans and elves.
When it comes to Origin characters, Gale in particular is one of the most popular and at the same time frequently chosen romantic partner behind Shadowheart. On the other hand, Githyanki is one of the least popular Origin characters among gamers. Very few Baldur’s Gate 3 users chose Lae’zel. To date, players have spoken to a total of 1.4 million undead and 2.4 million animals in the title. So obviously talking to animals is a common mantra.
