Mercedes EQS fully electric and The success of the Mercedes S-Class. They compete in the league in the truest sense of the word under the same superstar – but not least against each other. The EQS unveiled now should have an easier time in Asia and America than it is here, because Europeans tend to prefer the classic sedan look in the luxury segment. The EQS doesn’t deliver that with its curved silhouette from an ultra-short hood to a short hatchback.
This means that the 5.22-meter EQS is set apart from the still young S-Class, not only technically, but also visually – also in order to systematically use the electric motor to have more space inside. “With a drag coefficient of just 0.20, the EQS is the most aerodynamic production vehicle in the world. This contributes to a range of 770 kilometers according to WLTP. And with a charging capacity of 200 kW, 300 kilometers can be achieved in just 15 minutes,” he said. Daimler Development Corporation Board Member Markus Schaeffer (55) says.
The cockpit is in the latest style
Entry and exit is semi-automatic because the four doors open electrically with the push of a button, as if it were magic. There is a huge 1.41m XXL display in the cockpit, Which at first glance seems to confuse you with a combination of a dashboard, a center console, and three information displays. But the S-Class cockpit from the day before yesterday looks like that. There is no front passenger display on the S-Class.
Unlike the S-Class, the EQS is only available with a single wheelbase and rear seats only instead of single seats, which may cost customers in Asia. But the interior dimensions are generous, as is the long wheelbase S-Class (5.29 m). Cargo space is huge as well, at 610-1770 liters.
Range of 770 km
Somewhat surprisingly, the base version EQS 450 only has rear wheel drive and has an output of 245 kW (333 hp) and 568 Nm with a 90 kWh battery. However, most EQS will have a 4×4, the large battery with 107.8 kWh (520 hp) and 855 Nm (210 km / h top) – like the top model, which weighs roughly 2.6 tons the EQS 580 4Matic . The rear-wheel-drive version and the large battery are expected to travel up to 770 kilometers. Depending on the driving mode, the payback rate is 290 kW – which in ideal conditions means an additional 300 kilometers in 15 minutes. And if you want to, then instead of being particularly quiet, you can also use three electronic sounds that were specially developed for EQS.
Sales start in June
As with the competition, general shipping should get a lot more accommodating with EQS. It is enough to connect the charging cable – charging and billing are controlled automatically (if the charging station cooperates). Similar to the Mercedes S-Class, the EQS fails when it comes to driver assistance. For example, when sales start in June (dealers from August), there will be no autonomous driving partially at Level 3 as expected. This is only planned in the middle of 2022, similar to the S-Class only in Germany and in certain regions. But what if this will stop you from purchasing EQS? Prices are likely to be more decisive – and still be open.
