After a problem with Google: The popular email app has stopped

Many Android users will probably have to change in the future. Open source FairEmail app developer Marcel Bokhorst has removed the app from the Google Play Store and announced that it will stop working on the app with immediate effect, as “gHacks” mentioned.

FairEmail has been very popular with many users. Not only was the app free, but it also focused heavily on privacy. Additionally, there were no restrictions on the number of accounts users could create in the app. A number of other functions such as OpenPGP support or a unified inbox have made the app very attractive to many Android users – but that should be the end of it now.

The background of the app stopping may also be some issues with Google. The developer recently received a notification from the Android makers that an update has now classified FairEmail as a spyware. Perhaps this had something to do with the use of favicons, i.e. little logos in the app.

In addition to disagreements with Google, there were more special problems. Apparently, responding to thousands of users’ emails per month also prompted him to take this step. In its statement, the developer also indicated that it is upset that it cannot do anything about the unfair ratings on the Play Store.
