Kurt Fuse becomes YB coach! He always dreamed of that title, secretly until today. For his YB, which was brought to him by Timo Koniertzka in 1978 and in which he made a name for himself as a solid defender alongside Karli Odermatt and Kudi Müller from 1978 to 1984, Feuz had given up his job at and the insurance company had fallen and moved to professional football Shark Tank . It wasn’t meant to be – although he was in regular contact with YB because of the players, the coaches were always different in yellow and black.
And so that number stands there, like a monument: Fuse was coach of Münsingen for 37 seasons (!) and became a living legend. And now it’s over. why? “I’m going to be 70 soon. I want to stop as long as I’m mentally fit and I’m still fit,” says Fuse, pointing at his arms.
Two privileges: private and indispensable parking
When Feuz began his service at FC Münsingen in 1984, not a single player from his last team was alive. Taking over in League Three, within a few years he led FCM to League One – and he stayed there until the end, even as it was for a few years the Promotional League. Anything but of course: Financially, the Münsingers are inferior to the competition. The fact that they can keep up is thanks to Fuse, whose credo is: We have less, but we have it better!
For 37 years he has taken care of all matters relating to the first team, he wants it that way, everything pleases him. Feuz organizes training camps, orders equipment, monitors new arrivals and decides which player will get how much money at the end of the month. “The only thing I didn’t cut was the grass. But tell the groundskeeper if I don’t like it.” When asked why he always stays at Münsingen, he once answered: “Mourinho earns more, but I have a better job.”
For his loyalty, Fuse received two franchises. He is the only one who is allowed to park his car next to the club. And at some point it is beyond repair. “Yes, but there was no reason to doubt me, we were always successful,” he says. He cites his relationship with the players as the main reason for this. Although Fuse distances himself more and more from them in terms of age, they love him and he loves them. “Before, the coach did not have to talk to his players. It is different today. But I liked to look behind the scenes for my children. And they knew: As long as the performance and fitness are fine, I will turn a blind eye.” In his 37 years, Fuse only counted four of his 198 players for disciplinary reasons.
A deep bond between Feuz and Spycher
Christoph Speicher is never compromised in this regard. A “model student,” says Fuse, who made it his personal mission at the end of the 1990s to lead Monsingen’s talent into professional football. Feuz is advised by then-YB coach Claude Reeve, but when he visits Spycher he plays underground. However, YB, at the time in NLB, made an offer, but it was too late – at this point other clubs are already interested in him. “They slept in Berne,” says Fuse, who finally put Speicher with Andy Egli in Lucerne. The starting signal for a career that made Speicher a national player and captain in the Eintracht Frankfurt Bundesliga.
“Kurt has supported me in a really great way, and we have a deep connection,” Speicher once said of his mentor. Now Spycher gets his revenge in his own way: he makes Fuse a scout in the junior division. And so his dream comes true: YB gets a Feuz!
