Last year there was a scandal at the Oscars with a “slap in the face”.
Similar scenes should not be repeated at this year’s edition of the world’s most important film awards ceremony.
That is why the organizers have now put together a “crisis team”.
“We have a whole crisis team, something we haven’t had before, and we have a lot of plans,” Oscar Academy executive director Bill Kramer told TIME. We have gone through many scenarios. So hopefully we’ll be ready for anything we can’t anticipate right now, but if that happens, we prepare.”
At last year’s party, actor Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage after he made a joke about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett. Smith later apologized. He was banned from attending Film Academy events, including the Academy Awards, for ten years. This year’s Academy Awards will be held on March 12.
