Rebel Wilson under pressure from the newspaper
An Australian journalist has asked the “Pitch Perfect” star to make a statement within two days about the status of their relationship. The newspaper now admits mistakes.

According to her own statements, the Sydney Morning Herald has asked questions about Wilson’s relationship with “Over-Caution and Respect”: the Australian actress at the Oscars.

Australian actress Rebel Wilson said she was put in a “very difficult situation” by a newspaper prior to her discharge. Wilson wrote on Twitter on Sunday that, as she publicly acknowledged her affair with a woman on Friday, she tried to “decisively control the situation.” The Sydney Morning Herald reported on Saturday that it had learned of the affair and had given Wilson two days to comment.
“Fatal mistake. Wilson decided to twist the story and published a post with the Disney princess on Instagram early Friday morning,” columnist Andrew Hornery wrote on Saturday. Activists and fans then accused the newspaper of forcing Wilson – who had not announced her sexual orientation until then – to appear.
The newspaper initially denied pressuring Wilson, saying it had asked questions about Wilson’s relationship with “an exaggeration of caution and respect”. Editor Bevan Shields stated, “We would have asked the same questions if Wilson’s new partner had been a man.”
But the Sydney Morning Herald on Monday removed the article from its website. Hornery admitted that the newspaper “mishandled” Wilson’s outing. Bevan Shields wrote on Twitter that the Herald had “mistaken”.
Wilson is best known for his “Pitch Perfect” films. She made her relationship with fashion designer Ramona Agroma public on Instagram on Friday.
