Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. It is important for the Greens of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler that in the future there will be places of remembrance and the aftermath of the flood disaster of July 14 and 15, 2021 in the city. In a few years, it will be hard to imagine the event once most of the effects and damage have been removed. This makes it even more important to preserve the original objects that can be used to identify the catastrophic event.

Therefore, the Greens very early tried to leave the Maria Hilf bridge in place at the Kurpark. At the city council meeting on August 16, 2021, Andreas Schmickler (Greens) already made it clear that the bridge in the Recovery Park is the place to stay and remember. There are no inconsistencies in use at this point. It is authentically located in the place where the destructive masses of water drove and distorted it. Even what fell into it could remain on the bridge. Already at this meeting, the administration expressed itself in a similar direction and stated that it had secured the wreckage of the Maria Helf Bridge before moving it away. In addition, other items should also be inspected before they are removed and permanently erased to see if they are suitable for a memorial or as a memorial object. Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen continues his campaign to equip the area around the remains of the bridge with benches and commemorate the event.
