9th place in Östersund: a strong performance by ÖSV veteran Eder

Simon Eder showed a strong individual performance on the first day of the Biathlon World Cup in Östersund. The ÖSV veteran came ninth on Thursday after a 20 km and a missed shot. In the end, the 40-year-old was nearly two and a half minutes behind German winner Benedict Doll. In the women’s race, Dorothea Ferrer and Lisa Vituzzi (second) celebrated a double Italian victory. Dunja Zdouc is the 18th best Austrian ski hunter.

Dole used the absence of the best athletes with COVID-19 around Norway’s superstars Johannes Thingnes Bo, Sturla Holm Laegrid, Targay Bo and Swedish mass-start world champion Sebastian Samuelsson for a flawless race and fourth World Cup victory. 22-year-old Italian Tommaso Giacomel finished second, ahead of Norway’s Vettel Sjastad Christiansen, thus claiming the discipline ball.

Hauser has trouble shooting

Meanwhile, Eder managed to achieve a third place in the top ten in the World Cup season (without relay competitions). “I chose a good rhythm from the start and I hope to knock out four zeros. But I’m certainly very satisfied with a 95 percent hit rate, even if that miss is very close,” explained the man from Salzburg. The second-best Austrian was David Koumátz with two kicks at the shooting range in 27th (+4:27.8). Dominic Unterweger was 49 (+5:51.7/3), Harald Lemmerer 53 (+6:21.3/3).

In the women’s category, Lisa Hauser of Tyrol blasted a strong performance over 15 km with five shooting errors. The 29-year-old remained five minutes, 28.0 minutes behind Ferrer in 46th place without World Cup points. Her teammates Zdok (+3:25.6), who shot flawlessly, and Tamara Steiner (+3:34.6/1) came in 18th and 21st on top. There were also World Cup points in the ÖSV team for Anna Juppe in 36th place (5:01.3/3). Anna Gandler (+6:08.0/4) is only 59th.

After three competitions, Fituzzi secured the World Singles Cup ahead of Julia Simon. The French World Cup leaders finished fourth with two penalties (+1:49.5). Third place goes to German Denise Hermann Wieck (1 / + 1: 38.8). On Saturday, relay races in Ostersund are in the program, and on Sunday mass relay races start.
