The Grisons set a new Swiss record at the World Championships in Eugene and finished the competition in sixth place.
Annick Kalin’s World Cup premiere was a complete success. The 22-year-old from Graubünden not only finished the heptathlon in an excellent sixth place, but also set a new Swiss record at the same time.
It improved its record from early May in Grosseto by 66 points to 6,464. The last 800-meter run was also responsible for this, with Kalin once again convincing the character of the season in 2:17.49 seconds.
Eighth average in the first half
Kälin started the second part of the competition on Monday morning in the eighth middle. Thanks to the powerful long jump – with 6.56m she finished second behind subsequent Belgian winner Navissatu Thiam – followed by the hard javelin throw, she meanwhile improved to fifth.
In the end, Kalin was 95 points lower than fifth. That’s because Belgium’s Nord Weddt was third in the 800m – the Swiss finished ninth – with more than 100 points and outpaced Grisons.
A Belgian at the top was also chanted. Thiam lived up to her role as a favorite and won the gold medal with a total of 6,947 points. Silver went to Anouk Vetter of Holland (6867), and bronze went to American Anna Hall (6755).
For 27-year-old Thiam, this is her second World Cup gold after London 2017. In Doha she won the silver medal behind Katharina Johnson-Thompson/Great Britain. The British title holder finished the competition in Eugene in eighth place.
