Simon Emmer set a clear new national record in the decathlon in Ratingen with 8,354 points.

A day after his Swiss long jump record, which he set in the decathlon, Simon Emmer also crowned himself as the national record holder in the general standings. With 8,354 points, he surpassed Pete Gueller’s previous record in decathlon since 1988 by 110 points.

The only 22-year-old from Appenzell has managed to keep up with the pace of the competition in Ratingen, Germany. Although he had to take last place in the last 1,500 metres, the final value was enough for the clear Swiss record – and victory in the event. In addition to the long jump, he previously achieved his best in the discus (39.13 m) and the shot put (14.26 m).

Ehammer competed in his first outdoor competition of the season in Germany and on the first opportunity he met the limits of the World Championships in Eugene (USA) in July and the European Championships in Munich in August. The silver medalist at this year’s World Indoor Championships in Belgrade was ranked second on the list of the best European season.

On Saturday, Immer broke the 19-year-old Swiss record by 3 centimeters with a jump of 8.30 metres. His previous best performance in the decathlon was 8,231 points, which he scored at Langenthal in 2020.
